Massachusetts Lawyers Handling Mesothelioma Claims

Asbestos-related conditions such as mesothelioma and asbestosis killed 1372 Massachusetts citizens between 1980 and 2000. Sadly, over half of these deaths were due to asbestosis, an entirely treatable asbestos condition if caught early enough. Just under half were due to mesothelioma, a terminal cancer caused by asbestos poisoning.

Removing Materials Containing AsbestosWhen caught early enough, the prognosis for mesothelioma is greatly improved. It can take 30 to 50 years for symptoms to appear because the mesothelioma has a prolonged latency period.

Symptoms of pleural mesothelioma, the most common form, include:

  • Pleural effusion (build up of fluid in the chest wall)
  • Chest wall pain
  • Coughing up blood
  • Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)
  • Dyspnea (shortness of breath)
  • Fatigue/anemia
  • Weight loss
  • Lumps under skin/on chest

Because these symptoms resemble so many other conditions, diagnosis of mesothelioma can be rather difficult. If you have ever been exposed to asbestos, it is important that you watch for these warning signs. Your physician will perform a CT scan, x-ray, PET scan or MRI in combination with tissue biopsy in order to diagnose mesothelioma.

After diagnosis, treatment options include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Unfortunately, even with treatment, the prognosis is poor and can range anywhere from a few months to a few years, depending on the advancement of the disease.

If you or a loved one worked or lived in Massachusetts and has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you may be entitled to compensation. Please speak with our experienced Massachusetts mesothelioma lawyers by emailing or calling 1-877 LOSS RECOVER (567-7732) today for your free case evaluation.
